Part 2 in our series of Driver Profiles for the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series includes Formula 1600 driver Ben Hurst.
Ben had five pole-position starts in his third season and continues on the front row today as our winter-long series of Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Driver Profiles rolls on. Brian Graham Racing driver Ben Hurst captured the A Class Championship with five wins and thirteen podiums, and he followed up with a great showing for Team Canada. How long have you been racing?
I have been racing for 3 years with all my time in F1600 so far.
How many race cars have you owned?
I personally haven’t owned any myself but I have driven 3 of Brian Graham Racing’s Pipers and also 2 of Cliff Dempsey’s Ray race cars in England.
What is your # and why did you choose it?
My Number is 3 and it was more of a number that found me. When I did the Bridgestone Racing Academy I was in cars 2 and 3 and then when I first tested with Brian he put me into car 3 and it seemed to stick after that.
What track raced has been your favourite?
I always like to think that I like other tracks like Brands Hatch, Homestead or Tremblant but whenever it comes to racing at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport) I always get so excited because it is so fast and so unique from any other track that is being raced on today.
What track would you love to race around?
I would love to race around Silverstone because there is so much history there and the circuit layout looks really cool.
What is your greatest racing memory?
My greatest racing memory is definitely my first win with Brian Graham racing in Florida last January probably because it was in a massive rain storm and I was just driving and looking for grip where I could. I honestly wasn’t expecting to hear that I had won when I crossed the line.
Favourite driver from any generation?
My favorite driver I would have to say is Lewis Hamilton because he really is an incredible competitor being a fast driver and a great racer when he needs too.
Do you plan to be on the grid in 2018?
I sadly don’t plan on being on the grid in 2018 I am looking at my future plans for racing right now and I will announce something in the new year.
